Jason Starr’s 2003 noir crime book Tough Luck is being made into a movie. Starr is set to write the screenplay himself and director Michael Rapaport has been chosen to direct the film.
Tough Luck is a book about Brooklyn native Mickey Prada. He’s a “good kid” with an honest life, until he inadvertently gets mixed up with the wrong people and finds himself in a lot of trouble. Due to the tough luck he’s had, now he’s trying to clime out of the hole he’s dug himself into.
The most interesting thing about this movie adaptation for me is that Starr will be writing his own novel into a screenplay. That should keep the movie close to the book, so that’s exciting. I know screenplay writing is very different from novel writing, but it would be very cool if more authors could do this.
What do you think the upcoming Tough Luck movie based on the book? Do you think Starr will do a good job writing a screenplay for his own book?
