River Road Entertainment has announced that it has optioned the My Salinger Year movie rights.
My Salinger Year is a memoir about author J.D. Salinger and written by Joanna Smith Rakoff. The novel talks about the relationship between Rakoff and Salinger as she is set to deal with the public that Salinger didn’t want to have anything to do with, such as letters and various other things which the famous author explicitly demanded not to see at all.
J.D. Salinger is most well-known for writing the classic novel The Catcher in the Rye. Memoirs can make interesting movies, especially when they depict another side of a well-known person that the public has never really seen. I will be curious to see what Rakoff has to say about him from her perspective.
What do you think of a movie and book about Salinger that isn’t written by himself? Do you think it will depict a darker side of the author which the public perhaps shouldn’t see?
